Toshihiro Iwasa, the newly appointed Board Chairman of Agona Swedru-based Gamba All Blacks, has cut the sod for the construction of a Sports Academy and an 18,000 capacity stadium at Gomoa Oguakrom in the Central Region.

Addressing a press soiree in Accra on Tuesday, the Japanese businessman and politician, said he was convinced that his first visit and investment in Africa would be a success venture since there were lots of soccer talents on the continent.

The chairman of Gamba Group of Companies (Nihon Berumu), promised to establish the Iwasa Gamba All Blacks Sports Academy and the construction of a sports stadium with athletics oval, tennis courts, swimming pool and other state-of-the art facilities.

He said 144 students would benefit from the fee-free educational unit, consisting of six blocks to be completed in two years. "My dream is to help the under privileged and build the best in Ghana", he noted.

George Afriyie, Chief Executive Officer of Gamba All Blacks, said since he took over the club in 2002, the club had chalked number of successes. "We qualified for the Onetouch Ppremiership and still trying hard to stay among the best in the elite diision".

Kwesi Nyantekyi, President of the Ghana Football Association, congratulated the club for their efforts in seeking the sponsorship from Japan and assured the club of GFA's support.

Ghana football, he said, is developing with the support of the corporate world.

He said sponsorship for the Premier league had been increased over the seasons, adding that the elite division would benefit from GH¢1.7 billion (¢17 billion) plus a GH¢350 million (¢3.5 billion) TV broadcast sponsorship.

The GFA President hoped that Ghana's FIFA rankings would shoot up among the best five in Africa and the top 20s in the world by 2010.

Mr Emmanuel Adotey, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), commended Gamba All Blacks for their achievement and urged other clubs to put up such facilities to groom future stars.

He appealed to the Japanese company to invest in other football clubs in the country.

Meanwhile, GHALCA is reported to have secured a sponsorship package from Japan for the Top Four tournament, the end of season contest played among the first top clubs in the Onetouch Premiership.
